My dog, a shih tzu, has suffered from severe ear problems. She would always scratch them, and they would have wax coming out with a foul smell.
I brought her to the vet, and he prescribed something with a steroid in it. He said, "This won't prevent the problem from coming back ; this issue will always be ongoing." I was told to use the whole bottle of medication.
Then my dog ended up pregnant. Because of the steroids, we had to stop the medication before we had finished the entire bottle as prescribed by the vet.
After my dog had her litter of puppies, I brought her into the vet again. They gave the okay to start the medication back up and get her ear back under control. However, I had started really using essential oils by this point and decided to try that before paying $30 for the steroids once again.
So I mixed a little bit of Lavender essential oil with some coconut oil. I applied this mixture around my dog's ear and just inside (but not in) the canal.
The next day my dog's ear was just like new. You would never have known that her ear had any problems. It smelled fine too. Now I am 100% a believer in essential oils and use them for everything!
