Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

When my father recently came to town for a visit, he told me that he was going to try to make a dentist appointment while he was here because he had swollen gums... and they really hurt.

I immediately grabbed my essential oils reference book to see if I had any essential oils that might help. I gave him my bottle of Clove oil and told him to apply it to the affected areas.

Then he asked if it would also help the burn on the roof of his mouth that he got from eating something hot. I said that it would not hurt to try.

Before my father went to bed, he applied a drop neat (undiluted) to both areas. He told me that when he woke up the swelling was gone on his gums. The burn on the roof of his mouth was also better, and the pain from that was almost gone!

He applied the Clove essential oil a few more times on the burn, and it healed much faster than if he had done nothing at all.

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: swelling-/-swollen-/-puffy — "[W]e studied the anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective effects of C. citratus [Lemongrass] and E. citriodora [Lemon Eucalyptus] essential oils on formol-induced edema and acetic acid induced abdominal cramps in Wistar rats.... In vivo analysis and histological assay showed that the two essential oils displayed significant dose-dependent edema [swelling] inhibition effect over time. They displayed strong analgesic [pain-relieving] and antipyretic [fever-reducing] properties similar to that induced by 50 mg/kg of acetylsalicylate of lysine.... This work demonstrates the anti-inflammatory property of Cymbopogon citratus [Lemongrass] and Eucalyptus citriodora [Lemon Eucalyptus], suggesting their potential role as adjuvant therapeutic alternatives in dealing with inflammatory-related diseases."Link
2.Associated topics: gums — Study 1: "[Oil pulling] would benefit the general population by giving more confidence in the ancient practices, thus preventing tooth decay and loss." Study 2: "Oil pulling therapy has been equally effective like chlorhexidine on halitosis and organisms, associated with halitosis." Study 3: "The oil pulling therapy showed a reduction in the plaque index, modified gingival scores, and total colony count of aerobic microorganisms in the plaque of adolescents with plaque-induced gingivitis." Study 4: "Oil pulling can be used as an effective preventive adjunct in maintaining and improving oral health." Study 5: "The myth that the effect of oil-pulling therapy on oral health was just a placebo effect has been broken, and there are clear indications of possible saponification and emulsification process, which enhances its mechanical cleaning action."Link
3.Associated topics: burns — "Burn Healing Potential of Nigella sativa seed oil in rats.... Nigella sativa L. (Black cumin) has shown a broad spectrum of pharmacological effects like antipyretic [fever reducing], analgesic [pain reducing], anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.... The present study suggests the burn wound healing action of seeds may be due to anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of major compounds in the oil."Link
4.Associated topics: burns — "Melaleuca Alternifolia [tea tree] Hydrogel... was compared with tap water as a coolant following application onto a fresh, deep, partial-thickness hot water burn.... Effective cooling of the burn wound and an increased rate of wound healing was achieved by both repeated tap water compresses and by immediate or delayed application of Melaleuca Hydrogel. Cooling is an effective means to reduce tissue damage and increase wound healing."Link
5.Associated topics: gums — "Both clove and benzocaine gels had significantly lower mean pain scores than placebos. No significant difference was observed between clove and benzocaine regarding pain scores. Clove gel might possess a potential to replace benzocaine as a topical [anesthetic] agent before needle insertion."Link
