Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

I want to share an experience about how essential oils changed the life of my younger son. Literally in one day he was a completely different child. He started making these gurgling, clearing throat noises which gradually got worse as a few days progressed.

At the same time, my daughter told me her throat hurt. I took her to the doctor for a throat check, and she had strep throat. I had them check my son even though he said his throat did not hurt. He was negative.

The noises from my son were getting more profound, so I continued to explore the Internet for answers. But now, not only was I seeing different behaviors, but I noticed he started tuning out, something I had not seen since years before as we were working through developmental stages.

I stumbled across PANDAS. "PANDAS" stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. I read how the culture does not always show positive for children and that the strep is hiding out.

I did something that I don't recommend, but I knew I wanted to see what was happening. I started giving my son my daughter's antibiotic. Thankfully there was enough, and, within 3 days after watching my son become another child, he was back to his old self. It was quite scary, as I now knew there was something huge happening.

All was well, but the more I read, the more I knew that another strep infection would come on strong. Sure enough, about 6 months later my daughter complained of a sore throat again, and within a day my son started having vocal tics again. . So this time armed with information, I was going to tell my pediatrician what had happened and what I believed was going on.

Unfortunately, all the pediatrician heard was that I gave my son someone else's medicine. So once I got him to move past that, he told me there was no such thing as PANDAS and that I should put my son on medication that he could prescribe for Tourette's.

I asked the pediatrician how that was getting to the core of my son's issue, to which he again told me there is no such thing as PANDAS. The conversation continued and ended with a script for a lab to do blood work to check to determine if my son really had strep.

Meanwhile, so I could show them how my son has consistently shown up as negative to strep, we took my son in for a throat check. This check came out negative; however, the doctor I saw (there are a few doctors in the practice) took one look at my son and said, "He looks like he has PANDAS." Uh, THANK YOU! So I started my son on antibiotics, and again it cleared up.

That was spring. So in the fall of 2013 (approximately 8 months ago), strep entered the house again because my son started with the tics. My daughter did not have strep, but sudden drastic tics from my son meant he was infected. He went on another round of antibiotics; however, this time the tics improved but did not go completely away.

Not loving the fact that my son has had more antibiotics in the past 18 months then ever in his lifetime (he was barely ever sick as a small child), I wanted to just see if this would go away on its own. The tics were few, but in the last two months I noticed he was becoming less like himself.

Back to the doctor I went, but this time the antibiotic did not do anything! Clearly we had discovered that my son needed a stronger antibiotic and that he could need it for a longer duration.

While we were figuring this out, his autoimmune response went into full swing. It was to the point at which he was having tics every few minutes (or worse), and the antibiotic was not helping at all. The infection was clear, but the antibiotic was not helping his autoimmune response. This lovely time was happening in November to December of 2013.

I started exploring doctors who specialize in PANDAS, under my pediatrician's recommendations, and contacted a few. At the same time, I came across many references to essential oils. I was introduced by a friend in December before we went to Disney World, and when I came back, I started more detailed research on essential oils.

We were into January, and my son's tics were still profound, every few minutes like the barking of a dog. He had been on antibiotics since December, so it had been 6 weeks of antibiotics with only slight improvement.

My pediatrician explained to me that my son's autoimmune response was inactivated. So the only things she could offer me were certain medications for Tourette's or blood pressure that have been shown to be helpful with tics. She also said that I should see a neurologist.

In mid-January 2014, I discovered a group for treating PANDAS with essential oils! I read a few success stories and decided to start with the two oils that were talked about. These oils are Copaiba and Ocotea oils.

I went out and purchased Manuka honey. To start, I gave my son 3 drops of Copaiba and 2 drops of Ocotea oil mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of Manuka honey.

The first time I gave this to him, all tics stopped for 4 hours. I gave it to him twice a day until the tics started coming back sooner. That took about 3 days, and I increased the drops to 6 drops of Copaiba and 3 drops of Ocotea twice a day.

My son's tics and "brain fog" were definitely improving. It took about 3 weeks for me to realize that my son's autoimmune response was calmed with these oils. His tics were gone, and I had my boy back!

I share this story because I have had a few friends contact me after hearing about my son, recalling their own child's illness and a sudden onset of OCD and/or tics. Essentially in one day their child changed!

If this sounds like your child, I recommend looking into essential oils. I would love to help in any way I can if you are exploring oils for your family. Feel free to contact me.

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: sore-/-scratchy-throat — "The antibacterial activity of 14 essential oils and their major constituents in the gaseous state was evaluated against [respiratory tract pathogens] Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Staphylococcus aureus. [The] oils [with cinnamon bark, lemongrass, and thyme being most potent] and their major constituents were shown to be effective against various bacteria tested.... These results indicate that the antibacterial action of essential oils was most effective when at high vapor concentration for a short time."Link
2.Associated topics: antibiotic — "As proven in vitro, essential oils [Eucalyptus, Melaleuca Alternifolia, Thyme, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Cinnamon, Grapefruit, Clove, Sandalwood, Peppermint, Sage] represent a cheap and effective antiseptic topical treatment option even for antibiotic-resistant strains [such] as MRSA and antimycotic [antifungal]-resistant Candida species."Link
3.Associated topics: sore-/-scratchy-throat,throat — "Streptococcus pyogenes [strep] plays an important role in the pathogenesis of tonsillitis.... [T]hyme, cinnamon, lemongrass, tea tree, lavender, oregano, clove, palmarosa, or cajeput [melaleuca] EOs [essential oils] are known to be active against Streptococcus pyogenes, while oregano, basil, mint [peppermint], rosemary, and lavender EOs are known to inhibit another Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus [staph].... We showed that cinnamon presented the higher activity against S. pyogenes compared to the other EOs tested.... 14 [essential oils] showed antibacterial activity against Streptococcus pyogenes.... Among them Cinnamomum verum [cinnamon bark], Cymbopogon citratus [Xiang Mao], Thymus vulgaris CT thymol [thyme], Origanum compactum [oregano], and Satureja montana [Mountain Savory] essential oils exhibited significant antibacterial activity. The in vitro results reported here suggest that, for patients suffering from bacterial throat infections, if aromatherapy is used, these essential oils, considered as potential antimicrobial agents, should be preferred."Link
4.Associated topics: autoimmune-diseases — "DHEA [a component of PD 80/20], an androstene hormone [precursor to estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, cortisone, and other hormones], has been shown to possess a wide range of beneficial biological effects mainly attributed to immune system modulation.... thus leading to beneficial effects in diverse human diseases including resistance to infection, neuroprotection, wound healing, diabetes, hepatic injury, cardiovascular disease, and cancer."Link
