I am a cat lover. I breed and show pedigreed Ragdoll cats, and consequently, have a few of them sharing our home.
They are mostly well behaved, however one of my girls has an annoying habit of scratching at the fly screen doors. Clapping my hands used to get her attention enough to make her stop for a while, but she seems to have gotten wise to that trick, and now ignores me and continues to scratch.
Today I decided to try something different, and put some Peppermint oil on a cotton ball, then poked it between the mesh and the security screen. Well, she didn't like that one little bit. She approached the door a couple of times, and I swear she screwed her nose up as she came close, then turned around and skulked away.
Peppermint oil seems to be really offensive to cats, as none of my other girls would go near the door afterwards either. It may be useful in cases where you have stray cats marking your property or if you have a cat who goes to the toilet in inappropriate places.
Another use would be if you have an indoor cat who tries to escape when you open your door, just put a few drops of the oil on a cotton ball and attach to the door at nose height.
