As an RN I know that thin, splitting fingernails are often a sign of nutritional problems. I am someone who has fibromyalgia and ridges in the nails are common in this condition. Many medications can interfere with nutritional absorption.
In the past year I experienced a health problem of uncontrolled high blood pressure that took many months to resolve because the core problem was hormonal. During this time I was on many different medications that interfered with nutrition.
My fingernails became very thin and with the ridges they were splitting badly. I could only keep them short and the ridges were deeper and more pronounced than they have ever been.
