Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

My dog is a Cairn Terrier. She is well-trained, but sometimes gets too tired and does not perform very well during a long show weekend. Part of this is my fault, I get too stressed out and she picks up on it.

Also, how to make her focus? But not too calm, either? When showing in the breed ring, a Cairn Terrier needs to be "feisty" but not a jerk, either. Can I say that?

Since my work with dogs for the last 20 years has been obedience, it was new to me to allow a certain edge and exuberance for strutting around in the ring be the number one goal, not my obedience-roots where I normally want a dog to be more compliant and let me be the one "in charge" so to speak.

This is completely new territory. I did not want to ruin my dog, and make her "too obedient", but also tell her it was okay to be feisty and super-charged. Hmmmm. How can I get this balance?

The Joy, Common Sense, and Magnify Your Purpose are three oil blends that I used on my dog, along with my Healing Touch for Animals (HTA) work.

I used Common Sense for our training sessions, to help her focus on me and the task at hand. This seemed to really ground her, and sure enough, she gives me eye-to-eye contact almost as steadfast as a Border Collie! People are amazed to witness a Cairn Terrier work with such extreme focus!

Magnify Your Purpose, with my words to my dog spoken out loud: Your job is to do your best! You can tell all the other dogs who you are! (Don't laugh, she really seemed to comprehend this explanation to her and her attitude became tall.)

Sometimes, she gets worn out from the long drive and all the travel to these dog shows, so last weekend when we competed to earn her CHAMPION AKC Title, I put two drops of Joy on my palms, rubbed them together and inhaled them myself. (I needed a boost in confidence, competition is fierce!)

Next, I smoothed the sides of her coat, and rubbed her little paws. She flicked her ears, and licked her chops in response.

April 7 & 8, 2012 was a weekend to remember forever, as she showed for me beautifully and I also had confidence to stand shoulder to shoulder among the professional handlers and career breeders who have been at this for many years. This is only my 3rd year showing in the Conformation ring, and my Cairn Terrier won a 3 point major! She can now add CH in front of her name!

Did the Joy oil blend help me? I am sure it did! We were overjoyed and had a great weekend. The next day Dezi also earned a 3 point major towards her GRAND Champion title.

Congratulations abound, and I am thankful for the Young Living Essential Oils in my life, to help ease my nerves and become more confident and calm for all future AKC events!

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: breathing-/-inhale — "In confirming the presence of peripheral airways dysfunction in nonsmokers with uncomplicated common colds, our data imply that the changes can be modified favorably by short-term aromatics inhalation."Link
2.Associated topics: behavior — "The present study indicated that lavender aromatherapy as a potential therapeutic modality could alleviate premenstrual emotional symptoms, which, at least in part, is attributable to the improvement of parasympathetic nervous system activity. This study further implies that HRV could evaluate the efficacy of aromatherapy using various fragrances to relieve premenstrual symptoms, and ultimately, support the mind and body health of women."Link
3.Associated topics: breathing-/-inhale — "Cineole has mucolytic, bronchodilating and anti-inflammatory properties and reduces the exacerbation rate in patients suffering from COPD, as well as ameliorates symptoms in patients suffering from asthma and rhinosinusitis.... The effects of Cineole in the treatment of acute bronchitis were clearly measurable and could be proven after a treatment period of merely 4 days. This study corroborates the fact that Cineole actively and significantly reduces cough frequency after four days."Link
4.Associated topics: puppy-/-dog-/-canine — "Idiopathic vestibular syndrome is the most common cause of peripheral vestibular disease in dogs and, despite its dramatic clinical presentation, can improve without intervention."Link
5.Associated topics: behavior — "Beta-Caryophyllene [component of cannabis, clove, copaiba], a CB2 [cannabinoid] receptor agonist produces multiple behavioral changes relevant to anxiety and depression in mice.... these preclinical results suggest that CB2 receptors may provide alternative therapeutic targets for the treatment of anxiety and depression. The possibility that BCP may ameliorate the symptoms of these mood disorders offers exciting prospects for future studies."Link
6.Associated topics: behavior — "A number of essential oils are currently in use as aromatherapy agents to relieve anxiety, stress, and depression. Popular anxiolytic oils include lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), rose (Rosa damascena), orange (Citrus sinensis), bergamot (Citrus aurantium), lemon (Citrus limon), sandalwood (Santalum album), clary sage (Salvia sclarea), Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), and rose-scented geranium (Pelargonium spp.)."Link
7.Associated topics: behavior — "Most studies, as well as clinically applied experience, have indicated that various essential oils, such as lavender, lemon and bergamot can help to relieve stress, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. Most notably, inhalation of essential oils can communicate signals to the olfactory system and stimulate the brain to exert neurotransmitters (e.g. serotonin and dopamine), thereby further regulating mood."Link
8.Associated topics: behavior — "The ylang ylang oil caused a significant decrease of blood pressure and a significant increase of skin temperature. At the behavioral level, subjects in the ylang ylang oil group rated themselves more calm and more relaxed than subjects in the control group. These findings are likely to represent a relaxing effect of the ylang ylang oil and provide some evidence for the usage of the ylang ylang oil in aromatherapy such as causing a relief of depression and stress in humans."Link
