I had a whiplash twenty years before I tried essential oils to improve a weakened and troublesome left sacro-iliac joint. Although many kinds of treatments over the years had kept me functioning as best I could--to the point where I no longer needed to wear a sacro-iliac joint belt, I still hadn't been able to sleep on my left side for all those years, without it becoming painful again. I had learned to live with a constant amount of pain and discomfort in that area, grateful that the sciatica had eased.

In fact lying on my left side for more than just a few minutes brought more pain into that area again. Pain, not just when I was lying down, but in my movement and walking, until I could manage to self 'maneuver' it back into a more comfortable position, or have another treatment when I couldn't. Bowen and Emmet technique had brought some improvement, but I wondered if more was possible.

I asked my husband to rub oils up and down my spine and across my low back each night for six weeks. Myrrh to improve elasticity of stiff ligaments, Frankincense to encourage a normalizing return to DNA potential, Wintergreen to reduce inflammation and pain, Valor to encourage correct alignment and balance, and Peppermint to send the oils deeper and enhance their combined effect. They smelled great, and I went off to sleep to let my body and energy field work with the oils.

Before the six weeks was up, I was able to sleep on my left side, and day to day pain on sitting and activity was so much better. Even years down the track, the improvement has remained! My bodywork practitioner at the time noted the difference before I told him what I had done to help myself!
