Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

After two years of no colds, fevers, coughs, congestion, I finally succumbed this winter. I have used many Young Living essential oils during the cold - all of which helped in some way. The one I want to tell you about is Oregano.

When the throat is still sore and the tickle cough is still present after using Thieves and Purification directly in my mouth and Purification around my ears, then I remember to turn to Oregano.

I simply get some on my finger - less than a whole drop since it is VERY potent - I swipe my finger across my tongue sideways and use my saliva to get it to spread around my mouth and down both sides of my throat. Then I take a drink of water to wash it all down and spread it throughout. Once or twice is all it takes.

This oil is very hot. I say it's enough to gag a maggot. But wow does it work. Be sure to safety test it first. Also, you could try mixing it in a bit of coconut oil.

This study corroborates the fact that Cineole actively and significantly reduces cough frequency after four days."Link
4.Associated topics: ears — "[We] evaluate[d] the efficacy of the Pycnogenol [French maritime pine bark extract] in improving cochlear flow and symptoms... for patients with Meniere’s disease (MD), tinnitus, and cochlear hypoperfusion.... Symptoms of Meniere’s disease [spontaneous vertigo, positional vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, pressure in the ear, unsteady gait], flow at cochlear level, and tinnitus improved in Pycnogenol subjects...."Link
5.Associated topics: colds — "Taken together, we found an essential oil blend [Orange, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary] notably attenuates influenza virus PR8 infection in vitro via inhibition of viral protein synthesis at the post-transcription level. The lack of toxicity and potent specific inhibition ability make the essential oil a possible antiviral drug for influenza virus proliferation control and treatment."Link

7.Associated topics: sore-/-scratchy-throat — "The antibacterial activity of 14 essential oils and their major constituents in the gaseous state was evaluated against [respiratory tract pathogens] Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Staphylococcus aureus. [The] oils [with cinnamon bark, lemongrass, and thyme being most potent] and their major constituents were shown to be effective against various bacteria tested.... These results indicate that the antibacterial action of essential oils was most effective when at high vapor concentration for a short time."Link
8.Associated topics: sore-/-scratchy-throat — "Streptococcus pyogenes [strep] plays an important role in the pathogenesis of tonsillitis.... [T]hyme, cinnamon, lemongrass, tea tree, lavender, oregano, clove, palmarosa, or cajeput [melaleuca] EOs [essential oils] are known to be active against Streptococcus pyogenes, while oregano, basil, mint [peppermint], rosemary, and lavender EOs are known to inhibit another Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus [staph].... We showed that cinnamon presented the higher activity against S. pyogenes compared to the other EOs tested.... 14 [essential oils] showed antibacterial activity against Streptococcus pyogenes.... Among them Cinnamomum verum [cinnamon bark], Cymbopogon citratus [Xiang Mao], Thymus vulgaris CT thymol [thyme], Origanum compactum [oregano], and Satureja montana [Mountain Savory] essential oils exhibited significant antibacterial activity. The in vitro results reported here suggest that, for patients suffering from bacterial throat infections, if aromatherapy is used, these essential oils, considered as potential antimicrobial agents, should be preferred."Link
