Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

I recently burnt my ring finger on my right hand, with boiling water at work. I had incorrectly selected the hot instead of the cold tap, and when I realised my mistake, jerked my hand away, but the water ran down the ring finger. Within seconds, my finger was red and throbbing with pain.

By the time I got up the stairs and back to my desk (where my bag with my oils were) my finger had swelled, and just above the nail, it was turning a bluish colour. My available oils consisted of Peppermint, Lemon, the Thieves oil blend and Palo Santo.

My instinct went with the Palo Santo oil, and within 10 seconds, the throbbing pain had stopped. Within 30 seconds, the redness had dissipated, and the bluish area had reduced to a line.

After about 20 minutes, the swelling was down completely.

About an hour later the throbbing came back, and I applied another generous amount of Palo Santo. Two hours later I applied the 3rd time (it was only stinging at this stage) and that evening, before bed, I rubbed another layer of oil on for good measure.

The next morning, there was no blistering, odd colours, or pain.

What a marvelous oil!

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: swelling-/-swollen-/-puffy — "[W]e studied the anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective effects of C. citratus [Lemongrass] and E. citriodora [Lemon Eucalyptus] essential oils on formol-induced edema and acetic acid induced abdominal cramps in Wistar rats.... In vivo analysis and histological assay showed that the two essential oils displayed significant dose-dependent edema [swelling] inhibition effect over time. They displayed strong analgesic [pain-relieving] and antipyretic [fever-reducing] properties similar to that induced by 50 mg/kg of acetylsalicylate of lysine.... This work demonstrates the anti-inflammatory property of Cymbopogon citratus [Lemongrass] and Eucalyptus citriodora [Lemon Eucalyptus], suggesting their potential role as adjuvant therapeutic alternatives in dealing with inflammatory-related diseases."Link
2.Associated topics: burns — "Burn Healing Potential of Nigella sativa seed oil in rats.... Nigella sativa L. (Black cumin) has shown a broad spectrum of pharmacological effects like antipyretic [fever reducing], analgesic [pain reducing], anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.... The present study suggests the burn wound healing action of seeds may be due to anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of major compounds in the oil."Link
3.Associated topics: burns — "Melaleuca Alternifolia [tea tree] Hydrogel... was compared with tap water as a coolant following application onto a fresh, deep, partial-thickness hot water burn.... Effective cooling of the burn wound and an increased rate of wound healing was achieved by both repeated tap water compresses and by immediate or delayed application of Melaleuca Hydrogel. Cooling is an effective means to reduce tissue damage and increase wound healing."Link
