Vermiculture Project Caused Basement Stink

Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. My husband tried vermiculture over the winter using home-made boxes made of particle board. We were so successful in making worm castings and worm tea that the boxes rotted and broke through, causing a horrible stink on our cement floor. I can not use chlorine bleach or come in contact with any halogen (except natural iodine) because of my thyroid problem. What to do?

I only had the Thieves oil blend on hand, not the actual Thieves Cleaner. Rolling up my sleeves, I tried a dishpan solution of warm water, a generous amount of Bragg's Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, and about 10 drops of Thieves oil. Immediately the stink left - quicker than the gunk on the floor actually.

The little black flies seemed repelled as well. It's been over a month now and the stink has never returned. I am still in the beginning phases of learning about essential oils and, I must say, I'm amazed by how well Thieves worked here!
