Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

As a teen I was mortified that at least two times a year I found myself suffering a monstrous fever blister breakout that had me looking for the nearest sand pit to bury my head!

Then as I got older the frequency grew to a crawl and finally a stop... until last year. I was just minding my own business and scratching my lip enough so that my husband brought it to my attention. I realized I had that familiar tingle going on that warned me of an outbreak! Nooo!!

So I ran to the bookshelf and looked it up in my oils book. Helichrysum oil? Oh man! Within two days of applying a small amount 3 times a day there was zero sign of a breakout!! Not kidding one bit. Zero signs.

Awhile later I was given the opportunity to test that theory and was nowhere near home. This oil is normally not my standard travel companion.

Two days later I made it home and I have the tiniest little bump trying to rear its ugly head. So I applied Helichrysum oil on my lip, on the back of my neck, and a little along my spine. I repeated this 3 times a day for two days and the only thing I had to show for it was a very small scab! I'm sold!

Helichrysum is now my constant companion! No more cold sores or fever blisters!! I also found out the trigger... an allergy to my favorite nut - the pecan.

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: herpes,cold-sores-/-fever-blisters — "The presence of beta-caryophyllene in many essential oils might contribute strongly to their antiviral ability. These results indicate that phenylpropanoids and sesquiterpenes present in essential oils contribute to their antiviral activity against HSV [herpes simplex virus]."Link
2.Associated topics: skin — "Local application of frankincense essential oil may provide a non-surgical treatment alternative, with no or minimal side effect for carcinoma in situ, minimally invasive carcinoma and pre-cancerous conditions such as actinic keratosis."Link
3.Associated topics: skin,skin-infection — "[M]any curative properties attributed to various plants in indigenous medicine are also present in their essential oils.... These oils exert a number of general effects from the pharmacological viewpoint. When applied locally, the essential oils mix readily with skin oils, allowing these to attack the infective agents quickly and actively.... In vitro studies [were] conducted by the author on antimicrobial and anthelmintic [destructive to parasitic worms] properties of some essential oils...."Link
4.Associated topics: herpes — "The patient was successfully treated with topical peppermint oil [for postherpetic neuralgia, a complication of shingles].... The authors believe this is the first evidence of peppermint oil (or menthol) having a strong analgesic effect on neuropathic pain."Link
5.Associated topics: food-allergy-/-sensitivity — "[L]avender oil inhibits immediate-type allergic reactions [anaphylaxis] by inhibition of mast cell degranulation in-vivo and in-vitro."Link
6.Associated topics: skin,skin-infection — "[One] method employed for wound healing is the application of lavender oil. Due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties, it is thought to prevent wound infections and to play a role in reducing pain by lowering inflammation.... Lavender oil is known to have antibacterial, antifungal, sedative, and/or antidepressant effects.... In addition to its antimicrobial effects, the anti-inflammatory analgesic properties of lavender oil have also been emphasized... The use of L. Angustifolia [lavender] is particularly recommended in chronically infected wounds due to its immune-stimulating and antimicrobial effects. There are also reports that lavender oil reduces scar tissue."Link
7.Associated topics: skin,skin-infection — "Tea tree oil (TTO) (Melaleuca alternifolia) has been used recently as an effective topical application for the treatment of skin infections due to a variety of aetiological microbial agents, including mainly bacterial infections. We detail... the successful treatment with TTO of a paediatric patient with warts on her right middle finger. TTO was applied topically once daily to the lesions for 12 days, with a successful outcome, including complete re-epithelization of the infected areas. The case highlights the potential use of TTO in the treatment of common warts due to human papilloma virus."Link
8.Associated topics: herpes — "Essential oils from anise, hyssop, thyme, ginger, camomile and sandalwood were screened for their inhibitory effect against herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) [genital herpes]. A clearly dose-dependent virucidal activity against HSV-2 could be demonstrated for all essential oils tested. Chamomile oil exhibited a high selectivity index and seems to be a promising candidate for topical therapeutic application as virucidal agents for treatment of herpes genitalis."Link
