When the heart can't deliver enough blood to the body and fluid consequently backs up into a dog's lungs or abdomen, it's called congestive heart failure. A dog with congestive heart failure may cough, have trouble breathing, experience fatigue, loss of appetite, or might die suddenly.
My dog Kevin is an 8 pound Chihuahua that I have successfully kept off drugs for the better part of two years by using the Aroma Life oil blend. Using just 1 drop over his heart (chest and back) has kept him going until the last 6 months.
Unfortunately we ended up having to do the drug route because he was getting fluid around his heart and coughing. The meds worked initially and continue to work with the exception of what I refer to as, "breakthrough coughing". It is frustrating and worrisome since it can keep him from sleeping. I suspect he is not always swallowing this infinitesimally small pill. I am also very fearful of upping his Lasix dose because of the stress it puts on his kidneys.
A week or so ago I was starting to fear a trip to the Emergency Room vet because of bad coughing in the wee hours of the morning. I remembered that I use Grapefruit oil on my ankles in the summer to keep them from swelling. So out came the Grapefruit oil and I applied it to Kevin as I do his Aroma Life. The result was almost immediate and the coughing subsided. He settled down and went back to sleep. He had a less severe round an hour or so later. I reapplied. He hopped off the bed and went to do his business and came back to bed and no further coughing after that.
I used this technique in the following days, either first thing in the morning or if he had some "breakthrough coughing", all without incident. Kevin actually seems to feel better now.
