Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

I got my first ever herpes rash on my face last summer. (I am still bristling from having picked up the virus at a medical doctor's office.) Not knowing what it was, I slathered all kinds of stuff on it, but nothing seemed to help. Using essential oils topically provided some relief but did not clear it up completely.

My naturopathic doctor had provided several supplements, creams, etc. Some of them helped... a bit. She, too, was baffled as to why I was not getting better. She said that she only had one other patient who had a herpes rash that was this stubborn.

After 6 months of battling this rash, I finally asked my ND for an antiviral prescription. No sooner had I taken it than I had a very strong allergic reaction.

At the time, I was hesitant to take essential oils internally. By this point, though, I was also desperate! So I started taking 3-5 drops of the Thieves oil blend in a capsule about 2-3 times a day. Within 3 days, the rash was completely gone!

This rash thing still kicks up now and then. But now, when I start feeling that tingle, I immediately start using Thieves. And I do not hesitate to use therapeutic-grade essential oils internally any longer!

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: herpes,cold-sores-/-fever-blisters — "The presence of beta-caryophyllene in many essential oils might contribute strongly to their antiviral ability. These results indicate that phenylpropanoids and sesquiterpenes present in essential oils contribute to their antiviral activity against HSV [herpes simplex virus]."Link
2.Associated topics: allergic-reaction — "Lavender essential oil displays the stronger antioxidant activity against lipid peroxidation in a linoleic acid model system and good antibacterial activity against four rhinitis-related bacteria including staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus ascoformans, Proteus vulgaris, and Escherichia coli."Link
3.Associated topics: herpes — "The patient was successfully treated with topical peppermint oil [for postherpetic neuralgia, a complication of shingles].... The authors believe this is the first evidence of peppermint oil (or menthol) having a strong analgesic effect on neuropathic pain."Link
4.Associated topics: allergic-reaction — "[L]avender oil inhibits immediate-type allergic reactions [anaphylaxis] by inhibition of mast cell degranulation in-vivo and in-vitro."Link
5.Associated topics: herpes — "Essential oils from anise, hyssop, thyme, ginger, camomile and sandalwood were screened for their inhibitory effect against herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) [genital herpes]. A clearly dose-dependent virucidal activity against HSV-2 could be demonstrated for all essential oils tested. Chamomile oil exhibited a high selectivity index and seems to be a promising candidate for topical therapeutic application as virucidal agents for treatment of herpes genitalis."Link
6.Associated topics: allergic-reaction — "[T]he biological activity of 20 essential oils (EOs) from herbal plants and citrus fruits were investigated in terms of mammalian DNA polymerase (pol) inhibitory activity, cancer cell (human colon carcinoma) growth inhibitory activity, antiallergic activity... in rat basophilic leukemia cells, and antioxidant activity.... Among these EOs, chamomile... showed significant effects on both cancer cell growth and mast cell degranulation. On the basis of these results, chamomile EO can be recommended as a potentially useful, bioactive candidate for therapeutic applications."Link
