I've had my dog since she was a puppy. She is a large furry lab chow mix or as I like to say a Chowbrador. At any rate, her fur is very black and very thick due to her genetic makeup. She was outside with me the other day in the garden and I saw her hop and then a bee fly up from her paw.
It immediately began swelling and she could barely hobble back into the house.
I began searching through my refrigerator full with organic essential oils. I selected pure french Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) for its soothing properties. I was unable, due to her thick dark coat, to find the exact spot of the sting. But I was able to figure out from her reactions the centralized location that was stung.
I then took 5 straight drops of the Lavender and worked it over that area of her paw and through the fur down to the skin. Of course as soon as I left her for a second she was licking it off so I came back to Miss runny lips! I wiped her mouth with a dry rag, sat and pet her. The scent and consumption of the Lavender had calmed her down as well as me!
After 5 minutes she was able to make it to her water dish without it causing as much of a limp. I the made her stay on her bed while I cooked dinner.
Thirty minutes later when I was done and let her get up, you could barely tell anything was wrong and 95% of the swelling was gone. We never had to reapply and that was over a week ago. My sweet doggie is 100% better and out of pain.
