Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

Last week I accidentally triggered sciatica nerve pain after doing a yoga exercise. I had overstretched my left leg too far back after not doing this exercise for a long time.

The pain shot down to my left buttock and thigh. A slight movement to walk or to sit down was painful. If it got worse I would have to get an appointment right away to see my osteopath.

I was not sure which oils to use, so I did some research on this website and found a success story of using essential oils for a sciatica problem. The oils that were recommended for sciatica pain were to be layered (3-5 drops of each) in this order are: the Valor oil blend, Clove, Idaho Balsam Fir, the PanAway oil blend, Frankincense oil, Copaiba and Lemongrass.

I had all the oils except for Clove. So I massaged the oils on my neck, spine and left thigh. In addition, I put 1 drop of Valor on the crown of my head and on the brain stem.

Next morning when I woke up I noticed a significant reduction in the sciatica pain. I continued to apply the oils for another 2 days, morning and evening.

By the 4th day, the pain had completely disappeared and I could walk normally again. Furthermore, I found that I could sleep deeply and soundly after using these oils.

Another positive outcome that I experienced after using these oils is that it had stopped my leaky bladder, a condition which I had developed about 3 weeks ago.

It's wonderful that these oils work so well. And thanks to my friend for sharing her experience.

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: sciatica — "We examined the evidence regarding the effect of herbal medicine on pain in people with non-specific low-back pain (LBP).... Lavender essential oil applied by acupressure appeared effective in reducing pain and improving flexibility compared to conventional treatment."Link
2.Associated topics: nerve-pain — "The patient was successfully treated with topical peppermint oil [for postherpetic neuralgia, a complication of shingles].... The authors believe this is the first evidence of peppermint oil (or menthol) having a strong analgesic effect on neuropathic pain."Link
3.Associated topics: nerve-pain,sciatica — "Ameliorative effects of Ocimum sanctum [holy basil] in sciatic nerve transection-induced neuropathy...."Link
4.Associated topics: muscles — "[T]he effect of essential oils on skeletal and smooth muscle...: The first type of effect on skeletal muscle involved a contracture and inhibition of the twitch response to nerve stimulation shown by a sample of clary sage, dill, fennel, frankincense, and nutmeg; ...lavender reduced the twitch response alone."Link
5.Associated topics: muscles — "Herbalists treat skin ailments, such as fungal infections (like candidiasis), wounds, eczema, and acne, with lavender oil. It is also used in a healing bath for joint and muscle pain. One study evaluating treatments for children with eczema found [that] it was therapeutic touch from the mother that improved symptoms; in other words, massage with and without essential oils (including lavender) both reduced the dry, scaly skin lesions. Another study found that lavender oil may improve pain control after surgery."Link
6.Associated topics: nerve-pain — "Topical high-concentration L-menthol is the only established human experimental pain model to study mechanisms underlying cold hyperalgesia. We aimed at investigating the combinatorial effect of cold stimuli and topical L-menthol on cold pain and secondary mechanical hyperalgesia. Cold detection threshold and cold pain threshold (CPT) increased after L-menthol and remained high after the cold rekindling cycles.... Skin blood flow increased after L-menthol and stayed stable after cold cycles. Repeated application of cold on skin treated by L-menthol facilitated and prolonged L-menthol-induced cold pain and hyperalgesia."Link
7.Associated topics: muscles — "In nine studies, Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) has shown effectiveness for arteriosclerosis, autism, Bells palsy, chemotherapy-induced toxicity, degenerative disc disease, detox, muscle wasting, muscular dystrophy, neuroblastoma, neuroprotection, oxidative stress, and spinal stenosis."Link
