After having frozen shoulder twice I know the signs of it approaching. I started to feel that tight/stiff/soreness in my right shoulder and noticed I was also feeling a little 'down'. When I realized that my attitude wasn't helping I perked up and became my own support system! That itself is a must for those with shoulder issues since it's related to feeling a lack of support. Of course the approaching cold weather doesn't help either!
At this point I couldn't raise my arm past my waist without the help of my other arm. It was very painful at night and I was losing mobility quickly. It was starting to freeze up. In the past, in addition to the oils, I needed physical therapy for 6 weeks to get back full range of motion.
This time, I started layering on Wintergreen (helps a lot for the pain), Aroma Siez, and Idaho Balsalm Fir (all time favorite!). I used about 5-6 drops each oil rubbing in each of the 3 oils separately. This helped tremendously especially at night. When the pain woke me up, I applied it again and it lasted until morning. So I was able to rest well without much pain.
During the day, in addition to the oils, I applied a cold pack for 20 minutes, then moist heat for 20 minutes and then a break for 20 minutes. I did this from 9am-5pm while I was at work. You must do both the heat and the ice to bring down the swelling (cold) and to relax the muscles (heat). Only doing one will aggravate the site more.
Within 24 hours I was able to lift my arm shoulder length without pain. The next day I just applied the oils without the cold/heat therapy (about 5-6 times a day) and by the next day I could raise my arm over my head with no pain at all!
