What worked for my chronically colicky horse

We have an elderly Arabian Gelding who, about 5 years ago, began having bouts of colic fairly often, especially during colder weather. With our veterinarian's help, we babied him through it. We looked at all the management tools known to help us prevent the problem, but nothing helped, and he became adept at foiling the vets' attempts to treat him.

Then I was introduced to the essential oils, his lucky day! If he even shows a hint of colic symptoms, I immediately give him about 10 drops of di-tone internally, and mix a few drops with V6 oil and rub externally on his tummy. Usually he feels better within 15 minutes. Sometimes, a second dose is required, but not often. No more midnight vet calls! It works like a charm for this horse, and saves us all some anxiety.

He is fairly small, so for a larger horse, I would increase the amount. We use a small syringe and mix in a little molasses and put it on the back of his tongue. Some people just pull out the lower lip and drop it in, but this guy is too resistant for me to be able to do it that way!
