Surgeon running on empty sees the light

Those of you on my regular mailing list know that I now work as a scheduler for six trauma and critical care surgeons.

Unfortunately, summer is “high trauma season” when all too many fine individuals will set themselves on fire (bonfire / accelerants), drink alcohol and operate cars, boats and motorcycles, harming not only themselves but others. These are the docs who will perform the many extensive skin grafts, repair deep lacerations, or remove parts that cannot be saved etc. and this often entails being up all night doing surgery, and often the following day. Egad!

ANOTHER PIVOTAL MOMENT IN THE ALLOPATHIC SETTING

Recently our elder surgeon appeared in the office and was headed to the respite room for a hopeful hour or two of sleep between surgeries. He was completely fried, having used up his reserve tank, the emergency reserve… and then some – a point where the adrenals are so fatigued that often sleep if not possible. Since Dr. J had already heard about his colleague’s episode of breaking the great toe and experiencing Deep Relief, which was most intriguing, I asked if he would like to try a few oils to de-stress and support the possibility of sleep?

With his permission, I first offered a few drops of Valor to apply to the back of his neck and inhale deeply, explaining only that this is the area where humans hold stress, and certainly he might have some of that… I followed with a few drops of Lavender and suggested that he coat his hands, apply it to his throat and again, inhale deeply. This might help ease the fatigue enough for him to *click* off and actually sleep for however long. He thanked me and I headed back to work.

TWO TRADITIONAL DOCS TRADING OILS STORIES

The following day Surgeon #1 (broken toe) was at my desk and asking what oils to use at home to support peace? I was explaining diffusion and he said, “I’ll order anything, just tell me what to get. Just then Surgeon #2 (fatigue) appeared and overhearing the conversation piped in, “I don’t know what you gave me the other day, BUT IT WORKED! I slept, and I felt a whole lot better when I headed back to surgery.” The two of them began traded stories of how the oils had helped in situations where neither had expected relief, nor believed it was possible.

THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF THE SKEPTIC

The elder surgeon (#2) concluded it was good that he continued to be “The Skeptic” and just enjoy what happens and I agreed, saying The Skeptic are particularly important function in every oils class, often asking the questions that others might be thinking but don’t dare to say. It’s all perfect, and everyone plays a vital role in this great classroom called life.

PS: Both surgeons have said they want more oils for home and personal use. Surgeon #2 said, “I may not be able to dispense these, but I can certainly use them myself… and I have a LOT of things I would like to use them for.
