I've followed the emotional-release procedure as mentioned in the book “Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils”, touching my forehead with the oil after applying it on the 'alarm point'....after few wks of application 7x a day, my forehead-skin got some brown spots...so...caution for sensitive skin with face oil-application!! – Ariane S. Artemis’ reply: Hi Ariane, I've been caught with the 'brown spots' too, when I first started with the oils (eight years ago now). It means that you have been putting blends containing citrus oils (orange, lemon, bergamot) on your forehead.

Citrus oils are photosensitive, and this means that they make the skin more sensitive to UV light. They can result in brown patches that need to wear off (taking up to 6 weeks to disappear). It's best to only use these blends underneath clothing, if you are going to be in sunlight within 72 hours. Hope this helps explain it.

Joy was the blend that did it for me - I put it on my chest, and ended up with a lovely brown mark there for a couple of weeks.
