I am 46 years old and have been an asthmatic all my life. I have been on ventolin 250mg (reliever) and seretide 250mg (cortisone preventative) for years. Last year on a getaway break on an island, I forgot to pack my medications, which I always normally carry with me everywhere. There was no suitable medication on the island, and I became quite concerned. I could smell that the accommodation was enough to cause me to have an asthma attack, and also felt my breathing was becoming more difficult.

I had only been using the essential oils for a couple of months, and decided to try them to see if they could help me through the weekend. I applied lavender oil all over my chest regularly over the weekend, and also went for some ‘light’ exercise to get some fresh air and ended running to the top of a hill for approx. 1km, unheard of without my medication.

Since then I have used several different oils in conjunction with my medication, gradually reducing my medication over six months. Now the medications lie in my drawer and the reliever has been used only twice in the last six months!!!

The essential oils I feel have been most effective are Melrose, Raven, and lavender and these I applied liberally over my chest and/or feet. I also use thieves, purification, peppermint, lemon and eucalyptus radiate, only because these are the oils I have in my kit. I also diffuse purification several times a week, sometimes thieves or lavender. I apply the oils morning and night every day.

Lavender has always been really good to relieve my distress during an attack, and as all asthmatics know, asthma is a very distressing condition. I use the Essential Oil Desk Reference as my guide, and there are other oils that I am yet to obtain to try.

I never thought that I could live without my medication, and am amazed that I no longer rely on them except on rare occasions.
