What to do regarding cat bites

My wife Danielle is a member of an animal rescue group. Unfortunately she has suffered a number of bite injuries from scared or startled cats. Many times these bites resulted in an infected wound. I believe this is partially due to the long sharp teeth that cats have, which drive bacterial deep into the wound.

For years when Danielle got a wound that became infected it meant going through a course in IV antibiotics. I was trained how to administer the IV's to make life a little easier during these treatments. After learning about essential oils we tried using an oregano / thyme mixture to combat these infections. These two oils together yielded wonderful results. Peppermint oil was used to lessen the pain experienced from the bite.

It still took about the same amount of time for the infection to go away but this natural remedy did not cause any if the side effects that the antibiotics did. I would caution anyone considering this treatment to still be concerned about rabies if the immunization history of the animal is not known.
