I did a really stupid thing and allowed myself to get really sunburned. I applied aloe gel and lavender oil frequently the first few days, but it continued to really hurt. I was thinking about how I could get the heat out of the burn and I remembered reading that peppermint oil could reduce a fever. I decided to try peppermint oil on my sunburn and also applied the aloe gel. I was amazed at how quickly it took the heat out and I finally got a good nights sleep. It was like having an icy cloth on my burn for 6 hours!
