Peppermint and migraine relief

I have had issues with migraine headaches since childhood. Back then when I had a bad headache my dad would massage my upper back and neck and then twist my head quickly and make my neck crack! No, he wasn't a chiropractor or a doctor, but from his own experience with stress and tension he knew that's what worked for him. And it actually worked for me then too, much better than all the aspirin i'd been given to take.

I have seen a number of doctors for relief of migraines over the past 15 years with the following results: the first one put me on amytriptolene, calling it a beta blocker. I gained 30 pounds before he let me know it was also an appetite stimulant. The last one was a neurosurgeon, nice guy, gave me a ton of samples of maxalt, which managed to help get rid of many headaches. My current doctor continues to offer me that same drug, but he suggested chiropractic work - hooray, a step in the right direction! So, I see a chiropractor, am down to every other week now and expect it to be maintenance soon.

There are a lot of issues with migraines ranging from stress to allergies and I have done a lot of work over the past 3 years to address these. There are also things like making sure the sleep number bed we have is set for 100 - I like a very firm mattress to help keep my spine in good order. Sometimes i wake up with headaches and it is because the bed has somehow changed to 65 (or some other number than 100) and that's why i will have a headache.
When I started using YLEO's one of the first ones purchased was Mgrain - it didn't work and made me nauseous to smell. Then I tried PanAway - it was a little better, but still didn't work as effectively as hoped for. Then I tried Relievit with little success. Then I tried Peppermint - and BINGO! What a relief to find one simple single oil that works to relieve the pain by cooling the areas it's applied to, and calming my nausea and easing tension just by smelling it! I use it several times a day on 'those' days and it really helps ease migraines - first by relieving head and neck pain, next by improving circulation and then by alleviating the nausea that sometimes happens with these headaches. It just makes me feel so much better and the headache moves into the background and eventually I realize it's gone. I feel so much better about using a product that works with my body and doesn't cause the side effects of many (or all?)medication.... Thank you Young Living!!
