While doing nursery duty at church, I entered the care room to relieve the first service care givers. One little girl (13 months) was crying without letting up. Totally out of character for her. Each lady had tried to calm her and find a way of satisfy her unhappiness. I am not really that knowledgealbe on how to read a baby's stress as my only child is 22 and she is the only one I ever really held, but having peppermint in my pocket, I put some on my hand and offered to hold the little girl and give it a try on comforting her. To our surprised within 2-3 minutes, she had quit crying and was drifting off to sleep. The attending ladies asked what I did. I told them by placing the peppermint on my hand first, then gently rubbing the childs back in a circular motion it had calmed her. We were all thrilled to have a calmer nursery that day. I also have taken in my diffuser and used it in the nursery. The peppermint makes the day peaceful and helps keep the crying and unhappy babies at a minimum. We all know how sour or stale a nursery can get with babies spiting up and dirty diapers. The diffuser helped a great deal in that way too.
