Scabies has been doing the rounds at the local school. It is caused by small mites called sarcoptes scabiei. It is also called the human itch mite.
When my 17-year-old son showed me spots all over his upper back and chest, we put neat (undiluted) Ylang Ylang essential oil on them straightaway. There were only a couple of drops left in the bottle, so that's all we used. Regardless, my son felt the symptoms ease very quickly.
We continued to use a few drops of other essential oils while waiting for a new bottle of Ylang Ylang, but my son didn't feel the same results. Nevertheless, by the time the new bottle of Ylang Ylang arrived, the spots had virtually disappeared. Only a few pink marks remained.
We also sprayed all of my son's bedding, clothing, and towels with Thieves Spray each day. This was a much better way to treat fabrics than using the toxic Permethrin and Malathion based preparations on the market.
Once my son was clear of spots, we washed all the bedding and clothing in hot water.
It has now been a couple of weeks, and I can safely say that we are clear of scabies.
